OrEd-T-19.2-Healing and the Mind.13. The body cannot heal because the body cannot make itself sick. It needs no healing. The body's health or sickness depends entirely on how the mind perceives the body, and the mind's purpose for the body. It is obvious that a segment of the mind can see itself as separated from the Universal Purpose. Then the body becomes a weapon used against this Purpose, to demonstrate the 'fact' that separation has occurred. Acting out the separation, the body becomes the instrument of illusion, seeing what is not there, hearing what truth never said, behaving insanely, because it is imprisoned by insanity. 4. It was stated that faithlessness leads straight to illusions. For faithlessness is the perception of a brother as a body. If I see my brother as a body, uniting with him becomes impossible for bodies cannot join. My faithlessness to him has separated me from him and kept both of us from being healed. My faithlessness has brought body centered illusions to stand between us, opposing the Holy Spirit's purpose. The body then will seem to be sick, for I have made it an enemy of healing and opposed to truth. 5. I need to realize that faith is the opposite of faithlessness. Their differences in operation follow directly from the fundamental difference in what they are. Faithlessness would always limit and attack; faith would remove all limitations and make whole. Faithlessness would separate and destroy; faith would unite and heal. Faithlessness would put illusions between the Son of God and his Creator; faith would remove all obstacles that seem to come between them. Faithlessness is dedicated wholly to illusions; faith wholly to truth. Partial dedication is impossible. Truth is the absence of illusion; illusion is the absence of truth. 6. Both cannot be together, nor perceived in the same place. To dedicate myself to both would set up a goal that is impossible to reach. The body would fulfill its goal through attack, and the mind would fulfill its goal by healing. The inevitable compromise is the belief that it is the body that must be healed, and not the mind. Only this divided goal has given the body and the mind equal reality. If the mind is limited to the body, and divided within itself into little parts without connection this could be possible. This belief will keep the delusional system in the mind. 7. Truth and illusion have no connection. This is forever true, however much I try to connect them. Illusions are connected to illusions. Truth is connected to truth. Each is united, a complete thought system, but they are totally disconnected from each other. Where there is no overlap, separation must be complete. Recognizing where separation is, shows where it must be healed. The source of an idea is never separate from its result. The body is produced by, and identified with, the idea of separation. This makes the body sick. I think I am protecting the body by hiding this identification with separation, keeping the body safe from the 'attack' of truth. 8. This strange concealment has hurt my mind, and confused my identification more than I can understand! I do not see how much devastation is brought by my faithlessness. By withholding faith, I see what is unworthy of faith, but I cannot look beyond this barrier to see what is really there. 9. This is where healing is needed, and it is here that healing is. For God gave healing in the same place as sickness, and they are seen together. All attempts to keep both truth and illusion in the mind are given up when illusion is brought to truth and seen as irreconcilable with truth in any way.
