OrEd-T-22.7-Freedom and Holy Spirit.151. What do I value, freedom of the mind, or freedom of the body? I cannot have both. For one will be my goal, and the other the means to reach the goal. The means must serve the goal, and lead to its predominance. As the goal is reached, the means are seen as functionless. Everyone yearns for freedom, and will seek for it where he believes it can be found. Which one he chooses as his goal, mind or body, he will make the other serve his choice as means to reach it. This increases the importance of the goal, and diminishes the importance of the means.52. Where freedom of the body has been chosen, the mind is used as means, whose value lies in its ability to contrive ways to achieve the body's freedom. Yet freedom of the body has no meaning, and so the mind is dedicated to serve illusions. This is a situation so contradictory and so impossible, that anyone who chooses the body as his goal has no idea of what is valuable. Yet, even in this confusion, so profound it cannot be described, the Holy Spirit waits in gentle patience, as certain of the outcome as He is sure of His Creator's love. He knows this mad decision was made by one as dear to His Creator as love is to itself. 53. I will not ask how the Holy Spirit can change the roles of goal and means so easily. Instead I would be grateful that I can be the means to serve His end. This is the only service which leads to freedom. To serve this end, the body must be perceived as sinless, because the goal is sinlessness. This lack of contradiction makes easy the transition from means to end in God's Creation. It is the shift from hate to gratitude, before forgiving eyes. We will be sanctified by one another, using our bodies only to serve the sinless. It would be impossible for us to hate what serves the goal of healing. God loves His Creation and would have us free forever. 54. This holy relationship, lovely in its innocence, mighty in strength, and blazing with a light far brighter than the sun I see in the sky, it is chosen of our Father as a means for His own plan. We are thankful that this holy relationship does not serve our plan at all. Everything given to His plan will be used, and nothing entrusted to it misused. This holy relationship has the power to heal all forms of pain. Healing lies only in our joint will, for neither of us alone can serve at all. Here we will accept Atonement and be healed. And the Sonship is healed because our wills are joined. 55. Before a holy relationship there is no sin. The form of error is no longer seen, and reason, joined with love, looks quietly on all confusion, observing merely, "This was a mistake." And then the same Atonement we accepted in our relationship corrects the error and lays a part of Heaven in its place. How blessed are we who let this gift be given! Each part of Heaven that we bring is given us. And every empty place in Heaven that we fill with the Eternal light we bring, shines now on us. The means of sinlessness can know no fear because they carry only love with them. *56. As children of peace, the light has come to us. We do not recognize the light we bring, and yet we will remember. We cannot deny ourselves the vision that we bring to others. We must recognize the gift that is brought to Heaven through our vision. The gentle service that we give the Holy Spirit is service to ourselves. We who are now His means must love all that He loves. And what we bring is our remembrance of everything that is eternal. No trace of anything in time can long remain in minds that serve the timeless. And nothing can disturb the peace of a holy relationship, which serves as means of peace.57. As we look upon each other with complete forgiveness, with nothing kept hidden, with no error excluded, we will be able to overlook any mistake anywhere. Suffering could not block our sight, preventing us from seeing past it. And we will recognize that all illusions are a mistake, a shadow through which we walk without fear. We recognize our wills are His, because we willingly serve His Will. God would not let anything interfere with those whose wills are His. And the remembrance of our true identity comes soon.
