Oregon bill would expand drone use for law enforcement

A bill in the Oregon Legislature would make it easier for law enforcement to use drones. Senate Bill 238 passed in the state house with bipartisan votes and is now being considered in the senate. It would give law enforcement agencies more authority to use drones without a warrant. Many law enforcement officers have testified that it would make their work more efficient and more safe. Opponents of the bill have concerns about its constitutionality and the future of automated policing more broadly. Michael Abrams, the policy counsel at ACLU of Oregon, opposes the bill.
