Organic vs Nonorganic: Does It Matter?

from Practical Nutrition · host Achieving Your Best

As dietitians, we hear a lot about the term organic. Should I buy organic? Or does it even matter? The term "organic" is used regularly and often. You'll see it plastered all over grocery stores, supermarkets, farmers markets, etc. Understanding what it means can help consumers (like you!!) make informed choices about the food they are eating. So the question stands…does it really matter to buy organic? Tune in to find out!   Tips for buying organic:  1. Buy foods and produce your family eats most often   2. Prioritize your organic choices (often dairy, meat, poultry and some fruit and veggies are great organic choices!) Packaged items may be of lower importance due to its processing.  3. Buy organic in bulk    4. Try various stores- find your price point (large, small, farmer’s market, etc.)  5. Double check labels (look for the USDA organic label)  6. Buy in season organic (frozen if needed). This will help you save money whether you are purchasing organic or not!   Follow us on social media:  Facebook - Achieving Your Best  Instagram - aybspringfield
