It's been quite a while that I've been on hiatus because grad school is But hey, I'm here tonight and so glad to be reunited with Danny and Colton We're about to kick off with our special guest tonight to the one and only Jared Sparks a true American He's joining us tonight and we're gonna be starting off with a special origin story all about the one and only Jerry Sparks Shit Oh, God, it's okay. I just I mean for the record That's real there's an American flag in every room Yeah, palm was over the eyebrows Hey, we're about to kick off talking about Dunkirk With Roger about last year and then we did with Shaw who was a recurring guest or special host actually when Jason was Doing his study for six weeks. Yes, it's week's his graduates program that's up.
You ever living life at him like so Jared is actually my brother-in-law and I love to my core, but Jared's actually fun He plays a lot of video games with us. He loves comic book characters But we just wanted to get him on the podcast because we actually like his opinion on a lot of different things We actually get a lot of laughs and stuff so Jared out of all the mediums Comic books movies and pop culture. Which one is your favorite? Which is the one that you're like dude?
I'm all about that shit. It would probably more into comics. Yeah. What's your favorite?
Okay top five? Let's go to the top five your top five comic characters. Let's go top three Man Rolling over and like even So JB Batman what was your first introduction to Batman my first introduction to Batman was I mean early on just growing up as a kid just watching cartoons So yeah, I mean series. Yeah, then a series which I then purchased So what's one episode that stands out to you like to you that episode Dude now they're all the same Okay, I'm sorry, but okay.
I'm gonna go like my favorite like they are all 100% good because my kids getting older and older No, they're so Connor likes watching right, but it has to come down to two episodes to me If I had to do top three I can top two definitely is it's a tie for first I can't do it is one the one with two face in the courtroom That episode is just in same like the right a lot of people don't know this it one fucking Emmys like that a cartoon in the early Nineties one Emmys for best writing well because it was that freaking good It was like it was it was a courtroom drama episode and they're dictating whether Batman is guilty or not guilty and the plaintiff is the the right side of Harvey's face which is no yeah the right side part is which is the two face the F'd upside and the left side which is Harvey He's the defendant so it's too face to be Harvey defending Batman and it's been a long time since I saw the episode But it was so freaking good and the thing is we bought the anime series on DVD I did a long time ago that episodes not on there Well, like if they haven't released I remember watching it as a kid But I want back and I watch all four seasons and it's not on the release DVD I don't know why but that episode did win an Emmy I do know that maybe because of one of the It's on its own special edition maybe that was great And then the other one that was great was when two-face Wow when clay face clay face like Build a daughter and her center out and Tim Drake was like he met her and felt her and she didn't know she was part two Face me with her and I was like that was actually some good freaking writing Like don't give me like that was that blew my mind even as like a seven year old I think I was so yeah, I'm pretty sure so Jay Batman with the anime series Have you read any comics and if so what was your favorite like story arc of Batman in the comics? I haven't been able to watch broken bat. Oh, you want your bed the early 90s Mm-hmm, and that was probably my favorite of all time. Oh really good.
I mean just cuz I think didn't I buy you that Yeah, because I mean you see a glimpse of it like a glimpse of it from obviously the Batman movie when it came out with the Bane in some hardy plaything, but you see the limps of it obviously it's better in the comics But I think it's better because you see obviously a man who has no sort of powers get broken down and then he recoupes and comes back And then just takes ass yeah, he does But he doesn't just be bait. He'll be Sean Paul. Yeah, I guess it's a good job So but to give back to the original question Go for it Because I love the fact that there's just this person out there who just goes who just goes ballistic off of rage. Oh, yeah I just love yeah, and granted there's not a lot of substance Like range the integral part of your personality because you do like I go to the gym with you and I see you look at yourself Yeah, you go rage and when you were freaking deployed you had the five forty five plates on each side That was how much like five hundred five pounds 495 but yes, they were added five on each side.
Oh, yeah That's awesome the diversity in who we like is awesome because we haven't had anybody on the show that likes Hulk That's a true. That's super cool. Yeah, we all like Nightwing does he's been a given we've all like that's how we screen people Fine if not we're not on I mean even me a chef to share some of the heroes the hoax first one That's awesome. Yeah, I like the Hulk, but I'm glad to see he's in the top five top three I will give that the Hulk is one of those person that he doesn't like his old Well before I'm in hates himself.
Yeah, Batman does it He did especially with what's got snare's here in the middle He's like delving so far into his own darkness that is like Batman goes into that even deeper But Bruce hates who he is so much so that even it's I mean I mean marveling comment right now So horrible but Hawkeye has to kill in civil war to Hawkeye kills Bruce. He shoots an arrow through his head Also on the Batman I don't think it was actually chose Batman as a top five either. I didn't you did okay I know But I also enjoy that family stuff happening more than I do enjoy Batman solo things. I mean I pretty much got that straight from shop So yeah, I realize you also have that man so we talked a little about hope what about night Why why was nightwing your top especially because now granted here's a thing I can totally see looking at Jerry I'm looking at just basically You have personality but yes, but generally speaking if you guys don't know I mean what's not moving with Ryan Gosling and freaking Steve Crow they did the same movie together Yeah All right, so here goes I think generally speaking as human beings We're kind of drawn towards characters and stories where we see either a piece of ourselves or something that we relate in we relate to And so I know like in the first two like Batman or Hulk I could see a piece of Jerry did not because like Batman is a sign rooting type But he's like super like push himself beyond the limits of like humanity and like You really impossible but then nightwing is like the exact socially He's like the leader of the DCU practically like he's the heart and soul Like even more than Superman practically okay, and then culturally yes, but in the convales itself It's so they leave it to him, but culturally everyone loves dick Like their stories their stories are even Superman is like even Superman is like hey I've been to multiple universities that's true and like you alone are consistently Yeah, yeah, do you guys about that story arc?
So you know that the Superman right now is a Superman from the old universe And 52 was rewriting the characters, you know like they're different and they're different like they have a huge similarities But they're a little bit different from what they were from from flashpoint, right? But you now in the rebirth issue since the new 52 Superman died and the pre new 52 Superman is now the current Superman He's the one that who knew the characters from their origins from the from Earth Prime and He sees all the characters like I can see similarities, but you're a little bit different We are Bruce you're a little bit different, you know how you're a little bit different Diana used to love the old Superman and you know The old Diana used to love bats, but he he runs in Nightwing and he's like Nightwing I've been to multiple universes throughout the multiverse and you're the only character that stays true to you You would still hope and you just do you do what you do because it's the right thing to do and just to help people Yeah, you're constant. You're constant. I look not only that that was like so That's the most recent thing, but then you realize like whatever about now about you know 10 12 however many years an infinite crisis It was like the oh g superman coming into our worlds and he goes to Batman and he's like yeah We're gonna like you guys are too dark and you suck and the world sucks And then he's like and so that's like that's why Alexander-Luciner and I we're gonna like and super boy prime We're gonna like trash out your universe and then Batman's like okay fine But tell me this Is the digrason of your worlds better than the digrason a better man than the digrason of my worlds and the Superman is like no He's the man and that's like the turning point as a superman goes back to Alexander-Luciner We can't destroy this world because the decrease is the man He's like he's the prodigy of Batman, but he like opposes Batman on so many different levels Yeah, and they test each other on a certain level right but they they get along obviously Yeah, a long that sense and so there's a respect that I don't know Yeah, well, I mean it depends on my universe if he does right he doesn't gotta keep he's got this like awesome silhouette And it's like super fast.
He's got his like stinks and he's like wow like these people out there screaming six. Yeah, dude I had a theory on that. He's a man. I was talking to a friend about it and said she's a little Batman too little Batman too I was with theory.

I had this with theory. I don't know where I got this exactly is. I thought I was myself so I can ask you guys now When Batman so dig race and before dig race and right or before night When I was a And And it was kind of makes his own choices becomes night wing ratches off and Batman right like you said he kind of agreed but disagree Kind of situation and then every Robin after that has had an issue to where either they've died Batman felt default of it Right was adjacent to became red hood. Yeah, all these issues have always other Robbins I almost feel like dig Grayson is the guy that Batman wishes he could have been oh, yeah, and the rest of the Robbins are his failed attempts Right, right?
It's not for Jason. I love Jason Todd But I mean he became the red he became this guy Batman does not agree Well, he came Batman if Batman was willing to kill yeah, exactly so but that Batman is not willing to kill Yeah, I feel like part of it, which I feel is also in the same respect the same as they Grayson. He loves what he hates Yes, I think every single Robin is a I think every single Robin is like a personality trait of Batman like dick was his actual like acrobatic childish side that when he was like I want to help people like that the side of Batman that I genuinely want to do the right thing But he shrooms with themselves do that Jason Todd was the right side of his brain like I need to kill you know Joe You know, I hate this it doesn't see an outcome except for killing the person that to be done exactly like it like if absolute if As well as were in in I live in a world absolute I would kill people yeah I'm into it. That's why I can't kill the joke.
Okay, Tim Drake is his detective side I need to become ultimately brain and I need to be the smartest person on this freaking earth and in the multiverse Damien is I can't think of that one. I'm yet. You know, I haven't really I mean Carrie Kelly. That's just I don't talk about Carrie Kelly You you you delved into the realm more when Stephanie was Robin for a little bit I feel like that came at a weird point in in writing because there was a certain point Chuck Dixon writing up time this thing The exact transition kind of fails me It was like either right at the tail end of the Chuck Dixon era because he I think he wrote the Bruce Mcmurder I can't remember but it was like oh, you mean like a large yeah, yeah, yeah, so basically Stephanie Brown as a character I feel like it was pretty minor character in like the Robin books When Tim Drake was Robin because she was like spoiler at the time and she was Tim Drake's like love interest and cool whatever But then for a lot of time Tim Drake's character was forever panning you know back and forth between like I want to be Robin and like Maybe Robin sucks.
Oh, no, no, Ben is mean And then finally like so they're making Batman like darker and darker and darker to her Batman like had no social skills and it was a creep and Basically finally Tim is like man. I'm talking to you. I'm not gonna be Robin no more and so Batman was like okay Watch this then I'm gonna get your girlfriend to be Robin So you can find out like this whole reason for picking her was it because he was like you are worthy to be To get back at Tim like to kind of be like a pawn of like watch this then Tim dude, but okay Who did that like what right here did that I don't I honestly can't right now specifically remember because why do they do that? Like to get back at dick freaking in one story arc.
He sleeps with Barbara, right? I was in I was like a Batman beyond yeah He sleeps with Barbara and to get back with Tim. He makes me Yeah, that's why I think like I don't think it was just a joke Justin actually knew the character right yeah, I can't remember specifically But that's where for me my favorite like when I come to Stephanie Brown I don't really see her as like a quote-unquote Robin because it was like so short lives like even in real world time not comic book time It was like maybe six months But there's a handful of issues like not even a year's worth where she was Robin and then she was done because Tim was like okay I'll come back My favorite Stephanie Brown stories actually I think like the most creative one of the most creative like bursts that breath Breathes fresh life into the Batman franchise was when Bruce died quote-unquote died Dick Grayson took over as Batman Damien was Robin barbow still oracle, but she took Stephanie Brown under her wing So it's like dick is there a great time? No, this is like Dick Grayson is over here training Jamie and as a new Robin and oracle was training Stephanie Brown as a new back girl And so there was like a really close testosterone is she had given up being back girl And she did she can't with a new identity because she wanted to give that to Stephanie Brown Mmm, and so to me that was like a really cool thing because it was like it just played on like really fresh character I'm like Damien was forever like I'm this elite cool bloodline of Batman and I'm super rich And you are who again?
I'm the grandson of the demons head and son of the greatest deck of the who ever lived yeah, and you're what oh an Acrobatics I would take what a place always yeah, so it's really great. Oh, that was my favorite thing as far as you know I don't so I don't fully consider her truly as being like quote-unquote Rob one of the Robins issue yeah, but I just my favorite incarnation of her was when she was back girl and Barbara was like cool her mentor Yeah, that's me. Hmm. She just conch it.

It was actually a lot of fun It was a lot of fun if you're just going in there just a kind of detox and just hear Samuel Jackson be Samuel Jackson and see Ryan Reynolds be Ryan Reynolds then yeah, I mean you can't go wrong with that, but also I really wanna see lucky Logan I I was off about my heart for chanting What's next on Amazon passes Jennifer Lawrence as top paid actress well dang I love him both. So I don't know what to say about that. I'm a stone love you in lawland Love you in zombie lands.
Oh, I can't wait for something that part too I'm just waiting for that to come out and Jennifer Lawrence who hates Jennifer Lawrence. Well, he wasn't essentially a rat actor But the mark was but he hung out with them. So Jerry Lewis was hilarious and busboy and he was the original Nodie professor before Eddie Murphy So, um, you know rest in peace Jerry Lewis you'll be missed. Also, he did wonders for the muscular dystrophy Community he held an annual telephone for them. So so yeah, um, yeah, rest in peace Jerry Lewis Respect and shout to you.
