Hello everyone, this is your friendly, opinion-yering host Danny, and I would like to just say happy holidays. Holidays are upon us, and we hope everyone has a safe and joyous time. Real quick before the episode gets started, I just wanted to say this week, and next week we'll be somewhat affiliate episodes from our time at Horizon Comics Halloween Fest, with our interview with a brand of the show, Caz. Now Caz, it's about K-A-Z, has been a long time, listen to our first time guest.
Sorry, I've always wanted to say that. Anyway, so yeah, he's been a long time listener. He's a friend of the show. Today on his origin stories, we're going to be discussing a lot of different things from his journey down into Nerdum, all the way to his time playing professionally, the Tekken series.
So a lot of video games out for the video game nerds out there. Also, the changes that we've all been talking about throughout this past year is actually happening at beginning of 2019. The next episode that Jason and Colton and I are recording will be the announcement of some great things that are happening here at opinion-yering. So make sure you tell all your Nerd friends about us, make sure they like, share, subscribe to us, as well as following us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook at opinion-yering, also on Twitch at The Opinioners.
So without further ado, let's tune into today with our origin story of Caz. Hey all, welcome to another episode of opinion-yering. I'm your host, Danny, we also have, Colton, and we have a special guest today. Caz, there you go.
You can just say anything like that. We are at Horizon Comics right now for Halloween, Comic Fest. We're recording live, so it's a little ambient noise, then yeah, you'll be hearing people go back and forth and talk. But yeah, we're here and we're going to do an origin episode with Caz.
Make sure that you stay tuned, like, share, subscribe, the show, so that you can get other episodes. So first and foremost, Caz, how are you doing today? Oh, I'm doing great. Are you doing great?
Yeah. You've had a drive though. You guys did too much. Yeah, at least I'm out of town, at least I'm not working, you know.
That's what I told them all to do. I'm really gassed or admitted in my place. Lancaster's bad, but ain't bad. Yeah.
It's cool. It's cool. It's cool. It's cool.
Yeah. You can see Colton's roots. Yeah, exactly. You're pointing out stuff like stuff that's happening.
You just were like, yeah. You just were like, yeah. That's cool. So literally, we said that.
We drove by AV sports and graphics. Like, on the ground. Like, on the ground. Like, yeah.
That's like, that's so sweet. Yeah. I was shocked to still there. I guess.
It's pretty cool. It's like, I got to pre- like, behind the scenes of like this episode. Yeah. Or behind the scenes of his eyes.
Yeah. I got it. So on every Origins episode that we started three years ago, whenever we have a new guest come on, you've listened to the show. Yeah, of course.
So you know what I'm saying. Yeah. Thanks. Hey.
Hey, oh. So check us out. So Origins, we just talk about, you know, this is a nerd culture podcast. Like, where did that nerd start for you?
Like, as a kid. And what, where does it manifest itself? Some people's comics and people's movies, some people's video games. Some people are different.
Like, the person. And actually, huge shout out to Matt. Hey, Matt. Matt, Lou Beck, who is the producer over at the All-Star Comics podcast.
He's actually doing us a huge favor. And recording us here at Horizon Comics. So thank you again, Matt. So Matt, Matt manifests that.
If we'd comics it. Yeah, that's what he does. But also, he does a lot of gaming. Huge gaming.
I know you guys do a lot of fighting game gaming. Yeah, I know. And Matt does, you know, everything else. Yeah.
So where did it start for you? Like, this nerd, and then we can go into, like, where does it manifest? Like, what are the things that you like? You feel like, for me, I think a lot, it's hard not to get into this kind of like, origin without talking about how, like, young I am prepared to like all my friends.
Because a lot of times when I bring up, like, oh, I played this in high school. Like, what? Like, you know what I mean? Because I went to high school way after what they went to high school.
I'll be like, yeah, I played Black Ops in high school. All of you. And so they're like, oh, god. They just blow it off like it's nothing.
But like, when I was a kid, I guess. I'm like, Torek. Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
Torek 64, which actually brings me to like, the origin, which is like, when I was really young, my brother and I, you know, what do we do? Like, a hotel out of town where they would be like, those like, plug and play, like, Nintendo 64 already plugged in. You know what I mean? And it's like, you ranted pretty much.
And then I was kind of like, so we were already late to Nintendo 64. You were young. And I mean, then my dad got a 64 so that he could play, like, NFL quarterback, whatever. And then he just gave up on it, which so we pretty much just inherited those systems.
We got into Smash, like Super Smash Bros and all those games. Eventually, which led us like, being like, Nintendo fanboys and stuff. But then later, we started watching like, you guys are familiar with an angry video game nerd or the nostalgia critic or those guys. Yeah, obviously.
He's pretty pretty. Yeah, he was like one of the more popular, like, he was kind of what started like, the whole video game, like, reviewing online essentially. He had this character and still has it, I guess to this day, where he reviews old, like, really bad video games for like, any of us and stuff. And it was, he did it way before, emulators or any of this stuff.
And that was what got me just seeing, like, now it is, when you look up any YouTuber who talked about video games, they always have, like, a huge library of old, like, NES games or Super Nintendo games behind them. And I was always so jealous. Like, why does everybody already have these collections? But to me, it's like, it was so cool because to them, they had them because they grew up buying them.
Like, when they bought them, they were probably, like, in a catalog and when they were brand new. But to me, I was like, oh my god, these guys are rich. I was like, is this what it's like? Like, when you get a job, you can buy all these games?
Retro games from the 80s. Yeah. When you actually get a job, you realize you can't buy any of that. You don't want to get 60 dollars.
You have to grow up with that. And then nowadays, the game gets shorter, and the DLC gets larger. Yeah, exactly. You know what I mean?
They weren't released the DLC for instance before. Which I just downloaded, like, the DLC for Spider-Man. Spider-Man game? I actually very much enjoyed it.
Dude, I'm so shocked people still play superhero games, to be honest. Really? Yeah. I feel like they're like a back burner of superheroes.
Well, besides Spider-Man 2. Yeah, I don't know why Spider-Man 2 for PlayStation 2. It's like when you make a roller coaster for it, you know? It's like, okay, you know, look at it as a roller coaster.
Or a series where great. Yeah, we're okay. Not a Genesis. There was a lot of superhero games that sort of started that role, but then it died out completely with like a horrible PS2 games.
It's like everyone always kind of had a soft spot for Spider-Man, like even on the PS2 and then 2.4. But I feel like there was a Superman game on the N64. Yeah, it was rated a good worst game of all. Yeah, but I remember the version of Batman Arkham City, or Batman Arkham Batman.
I remember when that game came out, we were already dismissing it. And actually, yeah, I think I was like a freshman or something. Oh, I was married. Yeah.
Really? I was already married. Wow, dude. Man, I don't get you mad.
It's like, like, 10 kids. But I'm never playing the, I mean, I'm pretty sure that did for video game, like superhero movies with what did like the Dark Knight did for movies. Sorry, you know what I mean? For video game.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Dark Knight did for movies. Yeah, exactly. Because essentially it brought in like, oh, wow, it could be serious.
It could be like gritty. It could be just like watching a movie. Right. But then now they're trying to do that with Spider-Man, essentially, which is actually kind of working out well, but it doesn't have like the gritty tie in.
It just feels a lot more like the comics. What would you say the game feels more like? Which one Arkham? No, Spider-Man games.
Well, here's the thing. It's an original story. Yeah. I have read here and there are little bits of Spider-Man.
I read the Red Carnage or Red Goblin that just happened. Oh, yeah, yeah. This is really weird because there's a lot of people around us. Probably.
Oh, yeah. I know Matt's one of them. I know Matt's one of them. No, I think it did a really good job in the original story.
It was very like, it was very, it was very, it was very, it wasn't gritty. It was like, okay, so it played like Arkham Origins, Arkham Knight, Arkham City, Arkham Asylum. That was a pretty Arkham Asylum. It's Batman is really, really cool.
Yeah, it's dark. It was like, this one was like a good progression storyline where it's a totally different timeline. Yeah. Where like Peter is being like, he was a person who takes you to Doc-Ock.
And then you slowly see how he becomes Doc-Ock again. Yeah. And then, but by that time, he's already eight years in. Yeah.
And like, Electro is already a villain and a Vulture is already a villain. But it did a really good job of changing the story just enough. Bringing in Miles Morales. So I did a really good job in it.
I really enjoyed it. It was like, this is the game. This is the game. Yeah, yeah, this is the game.
That didn't play. I platinumed it. I platinumed it. It was actually a really good game.
I've enjoyed it. I read it and I started to realize that I would very much like, it wasn't until I actually read it, like on Red Box, that I realized how much I actually even like Spider-Man. And how much I especially love Spider-Man games. Yeah.
Because I just swinging around on the web is a lot of fun. Because we watch people play. I mean, you watch people play. I mean, you do that Lego Spider-Man.
Yeah, that's why I love that game. I play that game in dual school. Oh, not really. So video games started for you around high school.
Essentially, actually, yeah. High school. And you got to fighting games. Yeah.
And I know you got, what, top 32? Oh, what? That's like, well, I win you, Bo. No.
I won the Nationals. You got out of your bracket. elio pretty well, yeah. Yeah.
And you made top 250 out of almost 1,500 people. Oh, hey. So making top 250s. Yeah.
Not bad. For Tekken 7. Tekken 7. Yeah.
Well, this one is essentially in my first pool. I had two people who were like amazing in the bracket. And my brother didn't go to Evo. And he was just messaging me like, oh my gosh, that sucks that you got put against these two amazing guys who are not going to do this.
He does play. He does play. He's pretty good. But I mean, he's not as good as me.
But I lose to him all the time. Which makes me feel like I'm worse. How does that work though? I don't even know.
It's like the brothers. I'm like, oh, one brother's always better. Exactly. I've always used to look at me.
I'm like, dude, how are you beating me? And he sucks to suck. Exactly. It brings you guys.
It brings you realize certain things that are bad still work on you, which makes you realize how bad you really are. Yeah, but also when we used to play Pokemon on Sebastian, who's going to show up tonight? Oh, yeah. So remember how Sebastian used to always beat me?
I always used to beat you. But you always used to beat Sebastian. Sebastian would get so salty. I was just telling you this story.
When he was going to world, he was like, hey, I'm going to grind in. I got to test his deck. It's lightning, but I built it to counter fire. You've got the fire decks.
Let me test it out. You didn't want to game. I just stomped him all night long. But then he went to grind and he did OK.
Yeah, he just heard it out. He couldn't beat me. He's talking about my play style. I happen to fight him all the time.
That happened even in our local scene. I'm a master. So we got you're familiar with Olax. He's a great dragon ball player.
Now, one of the best. I smoke. OK, hold on. Because the last time that we had an episode, you were like, I changed up my own entire team.
And I was like, did you? I changed up my team like I'll be dead. Because the only still runs still. No.
Not as is me. He'll do it if he asks me. Like, switching up and no. It's not his main anymore.
No. But he's still really good. But we don't count him because he never comes around. So we always say Olax is probably the best of us.
Oh, the German is up there. No, the German can't take Olax all the time. So you're not going to win that for sure. German is only one tournament against them in Grands.
And Olax is taking out like four times. But with that being said, I have the hardest time ever playing German. He'll take me like five games to stop the hell out of me. But then when I play Olax, it's so close.
We go like 2-2 final game, final character. Crazy. Is this something about the different play styles it did? Against you.
Against you. I don't know what it is. Before we go on with video games, let's just start out with, we always do this in origins as well. Where this is a little break.
And we'll go back to that. This is like a commercial break. Oh, man. Here we go.
So top comic book characters. Top comic book characters. It's like a top five. Top five.
You don't have to rank them because our other host Jason, you've probably listened. I hate reading some out of them. He gets mad about one. He just likes the favorites.
He's like my top. He's like my top fair. OK. Everyone's equal, except for if you're not in my top five.
No, he's gotten down to the point where he doesn't say a rating for a movie. He just says like if this movie was on during the summer. And it was hot outside. And I wanted to go get into an air condition room.
I'd watch it. It'd be in like human Netflix. But I'll watch it. Maybe.
Maybe not. So stop top. I've never been super into like the same Marvel DC universe. Or well, sorry.
I mean, the Marvel cinematic universe. So we did top five characters in general. We didn't narrow down the comics. Yeah.
You could do anything. I had Nathan Drake from the card. Well, number one is Nathan Drake from the card. But I always, oh, what I mean is I've never really been into those.
I wasn't really introduced that way with the way a lot of people are mainstream. And then they go back to the comics. I sort of just bought whatever comments were popular at the time. So yeah.
Oh, no. But I essentially would buy like, oh god. I guess I really, really growing up, I like Guardians of the Galaxy. And I really liked what's.
And Dr. Strange. Because not because of, I mean, when I started to read back about what they did to the universe back then, especially people don't like them because he introduced magic, which a lot of people feel like it. Oh, you mean in our world.
But to me, that was like, it might as well just be the first superhero I've ever heard. So I just remember the reason I was able to read those is because my grandmother, I mean, sorry, my mother used to buy comics just whatever she would see, just for fun. And I remember she bought those specifically because she thought that they weren't violent. I mean, she thought that they would, like aliens, they wouldn't have blood, or at least they'd be green blood.
He's like, oh, they don't have guns. They just have a pentagram. Yeah, exactly. They don't have laser beams.
They don't exist. No, they just caught her eyes. No blood. Yeah.
And I never got into a group of people. Yeah, exactly. No one knows mass. Yeah.
Yeah. She thought it was more of like a kid-friendly kind of thing, especially if you look at the covers and think of it through the eyes of a mom. You're talking about the comics, right? Not the movie that came out when you went to high school?
Yeah, exactly. Yeah. That came back when I was like, four-year. Yeah.
But I was always interested in those. I watched. I was the kind of guy in high school, which I guess didn't really happen. Maybe it did happen to you guys in high school.
So I read it kind of late. But I was super into Watchmen. I would carry around everywhere. I never even seen the movie just because on the off chance that it's not as good.
Dude, a lot of people watching is like the Bible. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. Also, I enjoyed the movie a lot and have read the book.
So I think it's not the Bible. It's not the Bible. It's not the Bible. I like the movie a lot.
Also, I was very young when the Dark Knight came out. So I just saw it as I didn't really see it as a technical achievement in cinema. And we saw it as just a really sick movie, which got me into Batman. So I would say that would be my top four.
And I don't even know what a fifth would be because I don't know. All the watchmen is a movie. Oh, we can characters? I mean, I guess Rocha.
I mean, that was probably Rocha. Yeah, Rocha. Well, yeah, Rocha. Well, yeah, well, if you're reading, because you're not on issues.
I'm not on issues. Yeah, I am actually. Why don't you read them? Because I think you're reading books.
No, you're not on the cover of Marvel. I guess you do it. No, actually. I do when I'm on it.
I want to make sure I sound good. That's the thing. Kaz will listen to when you're on it and when you're not on it. Dude, I listen to every episode.
Dude, when I was on it, he was like, dude, just a person to me now. Yeah. And when I was on it, he was like, I know you now. And now he's on it.
Okay, so go back to the video game. So why do you as a professional player, because you have gone evil. You've done pretty good. You've gone all these things.
Not pro as in up here. But when we used to go play Pokemon, we used to play against top tier players. Israel, which you remind me a lot of Israel, by the way. Oh, god.
I love Israel. Peace of God. Yeah, we did pretty good. But we played against top tier people.
It did well. Exactly. We were the Cincinnati Bengals. We were still up there.
But then Carson Palmer Bus is late in the day to day. Yeah. So when you guys go to evil, you guys compete against those people. Not quite the rounds.
Yeah, exactly. But anyway, so quite. Why does a game like Tekken and a game that how it's built speak with you more. Like Colton was saying that that game speaks to you more than DBZ.
You're so pretty good. DBZ Fighter, all these things. Tekken is the one that we were. Yeah.
For a lot of people, Tekken 3 was their first Tekken game, because I think it was, I always read like conflicting stuff. But I always hear like one of the most popular games of like all time. I think it had the most arcade cabinets everywhere too. And when it came out, it was the number one.
Yeah. Well, for Tekken itself, I mean, like it was like no one had the most. Yeah. Tekken 3 had the most.
Yeah. If you went into an arcade, it was going to be Tekken 3 most of the time. And sometimes Tekken 5 actually. Especially back then, whenever you see a commercial for Tekken nowadays, it's going to say the number one fighting game of all time.
And you think what do you mean? What about Street Fighter? What about all these other games? Yeah.
Well, Tekken, it's pretty much based on Tekken 3 selling out and saying it well. My first Tekken wasn't until Tekken 5. And that was way later in the game. I already played it.
And I didn't know anything about it. I didn't know anything about it. I didn't know anything about it. I just played it like casually, matching buttons, you know, playing as they go to.
And then when Tekken 6 came out, we just got it just because the graphics and the sense that we just wanted a game to play on our PS3. And then it wasn't until way later that we found out about the scene and everything and the professional scene of people playing. But I always thought it was really interesting even past when I went back to Tekken 5 nowadays. Because I always liked the...
Well, if you played Street Fighter 2, that game was all about this American player. Sorry, American character. And there's a Chinese character. And he's like Bruce Lee.
It's all about... Well, it's like a game? Fae long? Fae long.
It's still a guy you play with. In a way, it's kind of like... It's in a way it's a bringing together of different fighting styles and different cultures. But it's more caricatures in a way.
So like T-Hawk, which is like the Indian guy and it's kind of like... It would be almost racist if they introduced him today. People would definitely have a backlash. That was a great answer.
DJ. Yeah, exactly. It's not what fighting game is meant to be. It wasn't Tekken.
It was another type of fighting game, but there was a drug in master night. Oh, oh. Oh, it's a fucking master? I mean a virtual fighter?
Is it... Yes. It's the name? Yeah.
Yeah. It's so good. Yeah. It was so good.
Yeah. It was great. I love virtual fighter series. But Tekken, it was actually very similar to that.
Yeah. It was all about Capoeira versus essentially what UFC initially was trying to be, which is just an all out cage match for any style possible. Yeah, exactly. But then in Tekken 6, you could really see where that was.
They thought the merging of cultures was really interesting because every character uses their initial native tongue. You're making people all speak their own language. Chinese, Chinese, Japanese, and Japanese. Even though they can understand each other somehow for no reason.
Even the bears that just growl, they're subtitles. It's hard. It's hard. It's a lot of people.
Yeah, a lot of people, they play the game because they see a kangaroo and they're like, oh, god, I gotta put quarters in this shit. They play this arcade game. But the game itself, I feel like the reason I excel as much as I do when I go to tournaments is actually out of town, is just I feel like it's the only legacy fighting game out right now that's really popular, which means that it's the only game where from game to game, fighting game, I mean, where from game to game, essentially the characters don't change except for a few whole system changes. Yeah.
You know what I mean? Like certain guard breaks or whatever, every character has it. But certain combo, like pretty much a combo that works in Tekken 3 will work in Tekken 7, which came out like 30 years later. It's not new to go.
Yeah. The graphics get better. They add moves, but they never really take away moves essentially. But like certain moves get better, but essentially you're going to play, if you play one character, it's really easy to play them in every single game because they don't really change it that much.
Yeah. You know, and that comes from me pretty much my entire life starting at Tekken 5, which I mean, you know, I was pretty, I'm a pretty young guy. My first one should have been Tekken 2. I mean, I mean, I'm in high school.
I mean, I'm in high school. Pretty much. I started in high school. Yeah.
Actually, I played 49 high school. My first game was 49. Yeah. But with Tekken, it's just really interesting to me.
And I mean, I definitely, I always choose, I mean, people make fun of me. Every game. Essentially, you know, I mean, Street Fighter 5, I picked Chun. And then, who are you going to play in Smash Ultimate?
Let me know when the cheer list comes out. Yeah. Then I'll pick my choice. Yeah.
I can't wait to play like all these new characters, Ice Climbers or Mario. I think that's the joke that will line this guys. He's like, I mean, I'm going to play to play Top's Tears, like this. I mean, if I'm spending money to get into these tournaments, I want to know...
I was pointing to the only one respected for you. You realize that? It's weird, yeah. The thing is, is that the big reason I do it is because I hate picking a low tier character that I like and I just hate hearing people complain because my first thing is Like, say you pick a horrible character and you're like, oh, I'm pretty good with this character.
And then you enter tournament and then you lose and it's like, yeah, well, I mean, I would have won if I picked a better character. I think they have, because they have surrounded themselves with, I mean, look, look at you guys. I mean, crew, okay. Let's say there's someone who picks a low tier character.
Who's extremely low tier, DBZ that you're like, be serious. Exactly. You play it, right? Now, you can still beat O-Locks pretty well.
Sometimes you get pretty fast. So you have this pre-thought, like, oh, I'm going to do pretty good if I just do this and I can get them in this game. And you have that pre- ... but then you go to actual outside your pool, you know, into a bigger pond.
And you're like, map this game. Yeah, you're trying to go. So when I started DBZ, I was so sad I'm playing Beers, right? And then he was bad.
So I was like, I'm not doing this. So I stayed with Beers. Then I found when I played more top tier characters, you know, I had my Evo team, which was top tier as hell. I wanted to sell 21 and go go back to the limit, who worked crazy.
Pretty top tier. But it was like, when I lost, it was almost degrading to me how I feel. I played these super fucking good games. See, that's the opposite of how I feel.
I feel like that's kind of like a test of skill, because I'm already using the best thing. Because when people use a bad character in the game, I just don't understand it. Because it's like, you can, I feel like you're making a dish with that ingredient. So I'm like, wait, wait, wait.
Come into that when I play like Beers right now. I'm playing Beers. And I do surround him with better characters to make it slightly easier because he does have a lot of flaws. But so when I'm playing Beers, it's more like when I get away and I execute.
Because honestly, in my book, a lot of characters are low tier because of certain executions or things that you have to do to make the character work well. It's harder to do. I don't want to say a character in a game is necessarily, it happens, but is bad. So I like to, you know, like Beers.
I don't think he's bad. I think he's got a lot of tools that just much harder to use. So I like to use Beers because like if I, when I win a game, I know I've executed what Beers needs to do to win games. That makes sense.
So it makes me feel better. I'm like, wow, I know I'm getting better. I'm getting that well. I was able to execute what some people cannot and call him low tier four.
Because someone plays them and they can't execute something properly and they're like, do you just low tier because it's not easy enough for his standing mind to connect. But if I can figure out why it's him, he can't connect and I optimize it. And then it's like, you know, he doesn't feel as low tier because I'm optimizing his ability to play the game. I always felt that like, whenever I hear someone talk about like, oh, I lost because, oh, I used to the bad character.
And they just, they always use the best character. I always feel like you ever hear about like how John Jones, you know, UFC fighter? I'm thinking the superhero. Oh, John Jones?
Where is it? Marshall Manhunter. John Jones? Is his name John Jones?
Yeah. I don't know that. I mean, it's a John Jones. John Jones.
Oh, John Jones. Yeah. Oh, John Jones. It's not J.O.N.
Yeah. That's he. He's got literally two first names. Dude, in the UFC fighter, his name was the man hunter.
Oh, that was so close to John. The Martian man hunter. Yeah. Well, you know, but like because John Jones, he would before he sat on the joke on the podcast.
Before every fight he would get, he would get very drunk. Sorry. He would get drunk and party in like every weekend or a week before a fight just so that when he wins, he could say like, you know, I won even though I party the whole last week or when he loses, he could say, well, if I didn't party, I would have won for sure. Oh, yeah.
Like people do that with like low tier characters. They lose a low tier. Oh, well, it's my character. But if they win, they'd be like, huh, see, I destroyed you with a bad character.
Yeah. I like to say I lost. Like, oh, I lost his peers. Well, it's just a joke.
I can all of my friends in my actual head. I'm like, I lost because I just didn't optimize correctly where I could have done with peers. Okay. No, honestly, go kublu.
Okay. Where is he standing in the tier? I'm a divi fighter. There's a lot of confrontation in tier list actually with DBZ right now.
So a really top player who's run one, a couple of regionals named up guys in the team. Came up with a tier list that people were shocked by because okay, why would they listen to this guy versus foremost? Is he a top player? He's very top.
I mean, he's an ancient guy. He's trolling with this list. No, I think he thinks I think he's trying to predict future meta. I think he's trying to say this is what these characters could do.
People aren't doing it. Like he listened to Beerus above mid tier. He's almost high tier. He's like a mid high, which is crazy.
He put people underneath that people have high like right now. Now is about a mid tier. And so it's a great he has like his tier list is so different. So everyone's like thinking everyone's tier list looks the same except for this guy.
And he's very revered in the community. He's super looked up to him. He's a very top player. He's beat gooeychie.
He beats on the box. He's beating very top players and in. So what's his list? I mean I couldn't tell you off and down the head.
But I mean the shocker was like he had go tanks relatively low. He'd be go tanks a little bit. I do think go tanks a little bit. I do think go tanks a little bit.
Because I mean in other tiers he's top tier. He's got 18 relatively high. Yeah, he's got 18 relatively high. Crazy.
Yeah he's got 18 high. He's got base. He's got quite cooler and cooler. He's like hi.
He had cooler par with Frieza at a mid-high tier. Which is a very strange place. If he's trying to know it is very low. Frieza's supposed to be awful.
He has beers high, as I said. Its not like he's TRN. He's got TN. He's like low tier.
Yeah, the reason it causes so much of a stir is because not only is it like it isn't just it's just like oh it's a mid tier, it should be high tier. It's literally high tier and it's low. Yeah, it's a little opposite. Some characters just like flip the whole tier list upside down.
But if it can't help it feel like either he's noticing something we aren't. Or maybe he's trying to be like oh the Warriors are not going to win the playoffs. the playoffs. But just so that when they don't win you could be like, see what I tell you.
I can see the future. He's a Japanese player and the Japanese players do this. They have such different tier lists from the other players. Like if you look back at Marvel, America owns Marvel, like we were the kings of Marvel, but Japanese, there were some good Japanese players and they had different tier lists.
There was a player named Mama Spider who to my eye, I think was the only good Spider-Man player, but when I was a good, he was ridiculous. And a bunch of Japanese players, just Tron Bonn, who was, I guess, her name was T-bone, right? But the next year Tron Bonn, she's a kicker from Mega Man. She was notably low tier, but Japanese players used her like she was a god.
So, Kaz, and right now, Dragon Ball is really split. I think it goes half and half between American and Japan. There's no clear winner. We've got Goichi and Kazanoko who are really top players in Japan.
Really, really good. Dude, I had to go back and watch Like Goichi. Goichi Levin? Yeah.
Leuwef? Leuwefen? I had to watch that couple times. I said that we talked about it.
And I have the recording and I didn't put it out there to our listeners. Oh, I was watching it. Oh my god. It was the first time Jason I was doing it.
It was so good. I mean, like the commentator, you guys. Like he said. Yeah, screaming.
But when he wasn't screaming, like he said, I couldn't believe how poised both the players were. That was weird. That was weird. That was weird.
They were both so... That's just like Korean players in Tekken. Dude, technical and everything was so on point that they couldn't touch each other. The defense wasn't immaculate.
Oh yeah, they're just insane because that's the best. Because defense of playing Dragon Ball is terrible. Yeah. You're defensive options.
It's very long defensive options in general. Very long defensive options in general. So the high level defense they were trying. It's just the game really rewards aggressive play, you know.
Yeah. It almost doesn't reward defensive play. Like if you do defensive options, you can get punished more often than not. So it's almost more rewarding to go for an offensive option.
It's pretty nice. It's crazy. Yeah. Yeah.
Dude, like it's crazy. So what was the hardest matchup that you faced? Like was there one that you were like, whoo! I was going to lose.
Like I was going to take that. Yeah, exactly. Then you take that. What do you mean?
And Evo? Evo, I'd say, well it was year two, right? Year two. You get to pull two.
You'll shoot mid two. Well, does that count if I lose? How about this? It counts as if you lose, but it was a close game that everyone rounds.
Well, I would say the first year we all went as a group today. Evo, my first character, my first person I played, so I get there. I get to my pool right on time. Or I get there a little bit earlier.
