Origins: Week 1 - The Good Creation -June 7, 2015

from Weekly Messages - Prairie Presbyterian Church · host Matt Brough

We need reminding that even apart from human beings God is pleased with creation. God called everything good as it was created.Genesis 1: 1-25  https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis+1%3A+1-25&version=NRSVSome notes:1) The first part of the message attempts to get us thinking about how Genesis 1 is not in conflict with science, and that the creation account in Genesis is telling the story of God's activity in creation from a particular way of thinking about it. Much of this part of the message is based on John Walton's article, "Genesis 1 as Ancient Cosmology."Walton argues that the Ancient Hebrews though differently about the act of creation. It was not about material creation, but about ordering, naming and giving function to things that were without function.2) All you need to know is the first four words "In the beginning God"3) The second part of the message focusses more on our approach to the creation and how it ought to be one of wonder and awe. During some of this message, there was a video played about Norway. You can find that video here.
