The Orioles opened their home series against the Yankees with a frustrating 3-1 loss at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Shane Boz turned in one of his best outings of the season, piling up strikeouts and limiting damage for much of the night, but the Orioles offense could not give him enough support. Kobe Mayo supplied the lone run with a solo home run, his 17th of the season, but Baltimore finished just 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight on base. Trent Grisham proved to be the difference for New York, launching a solo home run and later delivering a two-run single in the seventh to break a 1-1 tie. The Yankees bullpen shut the door from there, and the Orioles were left to regroup ahead of game two of the series.
