Orland, CA - Sleeping Like a Canary in a Coal Mine
from Small Town News · host Small Town News
Welcome to Orland, CA, the Queen Bee Capital of North America! Future home of the National Honeybee Discovery Center, queen bee production is a major portion of the areas agribusiness. The city is also home to the annual Queen Bee Festival in June and OktoBEEfest in October. Orland was incorporated in 1909, and oddly was named after the Orland Project, an irrigation project completed by the then newly formed US Bureau of Reclamation. Orland was home to Cal Worthington, an automobile salesman, whose "My Dog Spot" ads and other outlandish television ads have been used and copied in numerous movies. We hope you enjoy our little fly by of Orland! Small Town News--whose headline is it, anyway? @SmallTownNewsImprov
