What this episode covers
Karl Insogna speaks about a current study of post menopausal women and the effects of a protein supplement on bone density. Osteoporosis has reached epidemic proportions in this country and pharmacological solutions have some drawbacks. Insogna talks about his previous studies showing that a higher intake of protein does not lead to increased bone loss, as previously thought. He also talks about how osteoporosis is actually “a disease of childhood” since most bone mass is accumulated in childhood and adolescence. (February 5, 2007)
