The objective of these two opening sentences is to segregate African American hearts, minds, and souls from being unnecessarily dependent upon another people’s independence. We, the former Africans who are now citizens in America, constitute a new people who have yet to fully develop into the human potential that our Creator planned for us. Every human being is created to ascertain and express “certain inalienable rights”. However, African Americans too often lag (follow) in areas of life that we should be leading – if nowhere else, we should be leading within our own communities.
