Dr. John Sharry is a mental health professional and solution-focused trainer with over 25 years experience consulting with individuals, families and organizations. He is a founding director of the Parents Plus Charity, works as a Social Worker at a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in Dublin, and is also an adjunct senior lecturer at the school of psychology in University College Dublin. He has written several evidence-based online treatment programs for depression, anxiety and stress, which are used in Ireland, Europe and the USA. His recent paper “Hope in the Face of Disaster – Creating a sustainable, viable future Path for Civilization” was presented at the Social Justice Ireland Policy Conference on November 19th 2013. The subject of the Conference was “A future Worth Living For.” In it he explores the many crises that civilization and humanity will face over the coming decades some of which are already starting to have an impact. The paper proposes a central cause to these crises and particularly explores the widespread psychological inertia in the face of these vast problems.
