One of the most redneck backwoods, hillbilly instruments is actually an African instrument... That's right, the banjo has its origin in West Africa. I remember hearing about this as a kid and paid it no mind. Growing up and seeing who uses it the most makes for an intriguing view on things. I'm sure most people using the banjo now have no idea that is an African instrument and if they do it doesn't matter at this point. It is a major fixture to folk, mountain and other really down home music. As always do some research and enjoy
