Stress activates the sympathetic nervous system which causes our blood to flow to our limbs in preparation for fight or flight. Therefore there is not enough blood flow in the stomach for proper digestion to take place. When we think negative, stressful thoughts like 'I shouldn't be eating this'', ''It's bad for me'', ''How many calories am I consuming now?'', or any other guilt-infused, self-judgmental thoughts we then create a 'high alert' situation in the body. This literally interferes with our digestion and our body's capacity to make best use of the food. Unconsciously this creates the same outcome we feared so much and desperately wanted to avoid in the first place. Here is a couple of good articles on that, also referencing relevant studies: http://www.abetterwaytohealth.com/how-your-thoughts-affect-your-digestion/#foot_text_130_3 http://www.dantest.com/dtr_ans_overview.htm Interested in diving into these topics in person?
