Financial markets tend to be wary of Autumn as past years have seen major shocks around this time. In October 1987, Wall Street crashed with stocks falling by more than 20% in a single day. In September 1998, the US hedge fund LTCM collapsed after Russia’s government defaulted on its debts. And in September 2008, the bankruptcy of the US investment bank Lehman Brothers intensified the global financial crisis. In 2021, we see the economic outlook continuing to favour risk assets.
