“Outside the Box of Our Expectations”

Aug. 23, 2026 Daily Devotional: “Outside the Box of Our Expectations”Ephesians 3:20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us..." ​We often approach God with a pre-written script. We bring Him our needs, carefully outlined with what we think is the best possible outcome. We ask for a specific job, a particular resolution to a conflict, or a precise timeline for a change we desperately want to see. Without realizing it, we cap God's response at the edge of our own imagination. ​Paul writes these words to remind us that God operates far beyond the boundaries of human capacity. It translates to something super-abundant, overflowing, or compounding beyond measure. God is notjust barely meeting your expectations; He is actively working in a dimension above them. ​Notice where this miraculous work begins: "according to his power that is at work within us." The God who holds the galaxies isn't just acting on your circumstances from afar. His Holy Spirit is actively residing within you right now. When you feel drained, under-equipped, or uncertain about the future, you aren't relying on your own stamina or creativity. You are fueled by the infinite capability of the God who speaks light into darkness. Stop trying to figure out how God will solve what lies ahead. Your job is not to manage His methods, but to trust His capability. ​Surrender the blueprint and take the problem top-of-mind today and hold it out to God. Verbally tell Him: "I surrender my expected outcome to Your better vision." Expand your prayers, instead of only asking God to fix a specific situation, pray for His glory to be revealed through it in ways you haven't even thought to request. ​Audit your inner strength whenever you feel overwhelmed today, pause, take a breath, and remind yourself that His power is actively present inside you.
