Over 1,000 local leaders push back on state zoning bills

Local government leaders from across the State of Michigan gathered to oppose a package of housing bills they say would override local zoning authority. House Bills 5529 through 5532 would limit how cities and townships regulate duplexes, accessory dwelling units, lot sizes and setbacks. Supporters argue the changes would increase housing supply and lower costs.
