Karen, a clinical psychologist in Cape Cod, had worked in the public sector for years and loved every second of it. She loved the predictability and the regular paycheck but this would change abruptly. Her health began to deteriorate to the point she could no longer hold a regular 9-5 position or work under fluorescent lighting. She began to lose self-confidence as she was forced to live off of disability for two years. But, Karen didn't lose hope and still felt she had work to do. Karen Carlson, a family clinical Psychologist in Cape Cod Massachusetts, shares her experience with Kelly about her journey into private practice after being on disability from a chronic illness that affected her productivity and work. Karen has over 30 years of experience working with children and families. As she began working as a clinician, she realized she couldn’t work with children as she hoped to. She felt drained by the work. She felt she was in a dark place as she was left unable to work after her disability worsened. She enrolled in the ZynnyMe boot camp anxiously as she “didn’t know if (she) had it in (her) to be a business person”. After receiving support from colleagues and coaches, Karen doesn't feel she has to compete with others. She stands out as she works her practice, coaches families, and works for a local school district.
