There's a conflict between the world's way and God's way. The world loves getting respect, but Jesus followers are called to focus on giving respect. We're all about getting respect, but God says as a Jesus follower, you should focus on giving respect. It's an obligation. It's even a command. It's all throughout scripture. It's all over the place. Leviticus 19 and Exodus 20 say that you're supposed to respect your parents … that you honor your parents. It's not optional, it's not contingent, but you respect them, regardless. Leviticus 19 says that you're supposed to respect the elderly … honor the elderly. It's not optional; it's not contingent. It's a little bit confusing because there are some people that maybe you're ready to respect, but they're not ready to be elderly, right? So, it's a little bit of a conflict, but the command is still there.
