Overcoming the Trauma of Childhood Abuse Carrie Sauls grew up in an environment of mental, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse of multiple family members. In her early 20’s Carrie Sauls learned that three things usually occur within a person as a result of growing up in extreme dysfunction and abuse:  1. They live life as if you are a victim,  2. They become a perpetrator who repeat the cycle, doing the same  abuse to others (usually children) as was done to them, or  3. In rare cases (0.3%) they rise above it and become strong, resilient,  healthy and productive.   Carrie chose #3 and has devoted her life to teaching others how to do the same.
