Overnight closures this week on I-76 West, Market Street for bridge construction prep

PennDOT is resuming work on the Market Street Bridge on Monday. The center lane will be closed between Schuylkill Avenue and 30th Street for utility construction through Aug. 20. From Monday night through Thursday, I-76 West will be closed overnight between 30th Street and I-676. The work is in preparation for the demolition and reconstruction of the 94-year-old bridge over the Schuylkill River beginning in late August. PennDOT's Brad Rudolph says the bridge will be out for more than a year. About 11,000 vehicles use the bridge each day. They'll be detoured to the Walnut and Chestnut street bridges. The $149 million rebuild will reconfigure traffic lanes and add bike lanes.
