oh goodness we're going to talk about overwhelm today hi this is the daily grateful i'm michael cross and have you ever just been in a feeling of overwhelm and you can't get out i'm kind of there right now but we're going to talk about my overwhelm oh maybe we'll talk about a little bit i remember learning how to do laundry when i was young not that young but you know the only time i did laundry when i was a teenager oh my gosh i cannot believe i'm telling you this my first girlfriend and i went to homecoming i bought this really nice new shirt to wear with a tie i mean this was a wonderful wonderful shirt i bought it myself i bought it at frank's department store in clearwater florida long since gone family-owned place i didn't know how to buy shirts because i don't know i just didn't know how to buy shirts i was what 17 and the shirt that i bought was not a permanent press shirt you know which was a thing that you could get them and i got them basically by default but this shirt which i really liked and the salesperson said yeah that'll fit you nice you look nice it was not permanent press but let us move on from there my girlfriend and i went to the prom then after the prom we went out to a place called fisher field where we did massive making out and stuff and uh how can i say this delicately i got grass stains on my shirt i have no idea why do you have them anyway i said okay oh we need to take care of this and in downtown dunyton there was a laundromat it was like an open air laundromat it was open 24 hours you could just go there so we went there i had a you know sports jacket that i had worn with my really nice new shirt i just took shirt off put on the sports jacket and she and i went in there and put the quarters in bought a little box of tide you know they'd sold a little boxes of bought a little box tide did this whole thing and then it comes out the wash through it in the dryer put the dimes in remember this dimes i have no idea by the way what a laundromat costs these days it's been so many years since i've been to a laundromat i couldn't even tell you what they cost but i'm sure it's a lot anyway shirt comes out of the dryer it's got nine million wrinkles in it i mean i can't even tell you what it looked like so i put it on and took her home and uh her dad wanted us to come in for pictures and i had to figure out a way to not do that and somehow i don't remember how but anyway off we went off i went and then i had to get home and i had to go into my house without my parents seeing my incredibly wrinkled shirt that was overwhelming but anyway getting back to laundry i learned how to do laundry when i in the 70s when i got married the first this is gross we learned i just we go to the laundromat together i learned how to do laundry got pretty good at it got really good at buying shirts that were all permanent press that didn't need ironing got that done when i bought this house almost 18 years ago i bought a brand new washer and up you know a top-loading washer i bought it at sam's club i have since learned well i don't know if it's true or not but it has been said that they were selling appliances that were basically seconds i don't know maybe i have no idea but you know what that thing lasted until last year so it lasted a good 17 16 and a half years and i then bought a maytag i never realized you know i mean i used to be so overwhelmed doing laundry especially on that old machine that i had to now doing laundry with a maytag that has all these wonderful settings on it i'm very grateful for that you know you have to take a moment when you feel overwhelmed about things like a stupid washing machine or having a ton of clothes i remember being home being married to the third mrs gross having a pack of kids living at the house and having to do laundry and i was a real big one for doing laundry i would do the laundry i got really good at doing laundry and then when that all ended i got a girlfriend when i was no longer married to that mrs gross i got a girlfriend i was in a five-year relationship with and she hated the way i did laundry so every time i would go to her condo down in palm beach i would do laundry and you know i'm gonna do laundry and she was very judgmental about how i did laundry oh my god it just stressed me out to no end i would just take a moment appreciate the feeling of clean clothes i did learn some things from this girlfriend on doing laundry i learned the power of really good laundry detergent which i had always just wanted cheap stuff i learned the power of that i learned the power of making colors last longer so you know that's that's what i did and i got good at it and things turned out all right and now my son and his girlfriend have moved in with me and laundry is stressing me out again probably because they got their stuff in my laundry room and it's not organized the way i want yet but they're working on it they're getting their stuff put together so i will be more organized with my laundry i can't believe i spent all this time worrying about laundry oh well i got another fish to fry i got a broken down truck i need to buy a car i've just just a bunch of stuff going on i'd like to retire just do this anyway we'll see you tomorrow you
