p.39-41 (chapter 6) The Memoirs of President Joseph Smith lll

from Green Eyes Yolanda · host Yolanda Tranquille Geer

Joseph Smith lll speaks of members moving away from Nauvoo and new people moving in that were in many cases undesirable. Emma Smith was persuaded to move away for a time and was adjoined by several others and rented out the Mansion House while away, to a certain man that is was soon discovered was in the process of robbing her furniture and fleeing without paying rent, upon hearing this she returned in time to prevent any more things being taken but was treated dispicably by several men who owned her money for board and keep. Joseph Smith lll recounts being about the age of 15 and his mother sending him on errands to retract money from those owing her. The years mentioned are 1845, 1846 and 1847. Joseph Smith lll reveals that he became a smoker during this time and continued to smoke for a number of years. It is to be remembered that after the events of the murder of his father and uncle, Joseph was uninclined to religion and was self reflective for a number of years before the Reorganised church approached him as rightful head of their church which was a continuation in teaching as Joseph Smith had taught before his decease.
