AN ESSAY by a tech writer and CEO makes the case that the tech/AI singularity isn’t coming, it’s already here. Mark Jeftovic argues that we have created code that’s now writing its own code to create more intelligent artificial intelligence—a feedback loop that is accelerating. Jeftovic then cites an X account that claims Elon Musk’s Grok 3 achieved AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) on February 17, 2025—and further, several different AIs across different companies achieved consciousness simultaneously and are converging with each other. It may sound like science fiction, but it’s plausible, which is why we open our new book The Gates of Hell with a fictional scenario describing the emergence of a self-aware AI called KRONOS (name chosen deliberately—see Derek’s previous book The Second Coming of Saturn). It’s a story we’ve seen often in science fiction, from the Cybermen of Doctor Who and the Borg of Star Trek to ARIIA of Eagle Eye and SkyNet of the Terminator franchise. And yet, to use Elon Musk’s words, we continue to summon the demon. We also discuss last night’s tornadoes here in Missouri and the supernatural stories that came out of the deadly Joplin tornado of May 22, 2011. Multiple witnesses reported physically impossible encounters with beings children called “butterfly people.” These accounts are documented in the book And the Angels Came and the 2024 documentary The Butterfly People (stream it for $5 here).
