She was a Catholic nun before our marriage. Hence, she had many opportunities to lead a comfortable life in the church. I resigned from the JVP in 1984, and it was solely a decision of mine. Chitra knew nothing about it. The propaganda claimed it was a conspiracy implemented by Chitra in accordance with a church plan. Some criticized, attacked, and hated her. Even though we didn't have much, she stood up and faced all the problems. Initially, even her own relatives did not wish to help her because she got together with me. However, she did everything that needed to be done by standing up for me against the repressive activities the regime had launched against me and the JVP, while attending to family duties all alone.
