P2. Maha Sayure - මහ සයුරේ

from Songs of Liberation - Sri Lanka · host Lionel Bopage

It was the worst natural disaster in Sri Lanka’s history and caused more than 30,000 deaths and displaced one and a half million people from their homes. The entire family of my sister Latha Bopage, her husband M T Bandulasena, and their two children Prabhani and Nilupulee were killed. I recorded this vocal track a few days ago in memory of them. In general, the song depicts what happened during the tsunami. It reflects the fact that the memories of our loved ones remain in our hearts until the day we die.
