Summary
Part 6 Ethics Chapter 37 The Common Good Section a. Proper Good and Common Good This section discusses man in the context of the universe, society and goodness. It distinguishes between common and proper good. The proper good corresponds to the good that is proper to each member or thing of the universe ordered towards God, the common good is that good which corresponds between the relations of all in relation to God. This unity of order implies two things: i) that those parts are distinct from one another ii) that they are nevertheless related to one another This right ordering of the universe towards God is in direct proportion to the harmony between proper and common good.
