Pa. Supreme Court upholds law that creates special mass transit prosecutor, a blow to DA Krasner

from KYW Newsradio Audio On-Demand

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has upheld a law giving the attorney general the power to enforce laws on all SEPTA rails — known as Act 40. It was signed into law nearly three years ago. Philadelphia’s district attorney called it "unconstitutional" and sued over its legality. State Attorney General Dave Sunday said the law is "warranted and within the bounds of the law, and has paid great dividends in holding violent offenders accountable for their actions on and around SEPTA vehicles." Philly DA Larry Krasner has not commented on the court's ruling. The law sunsets at the end of the year, and it's up to the state Legislature to renew it.
