Apreció por primera vez en 1958 en el libro tiulado Un oso llamado Paddinton del escritor inglés Michael Bond y luego subsecuentemente estuvo presente en varios libros del mismo autor, los cuales fueron ilustrados incialmente por Peggy Fortnum.
