Padres on Fire, Rockies in Freefall | San Diego Padres News

The Padres are on a seven-game win streak, surging into second in the NL West with a two-and-a-half-game cushion for the third wild-card spot—and they’re closing the gap on the Cubs and Phillies. Meanwhile, the Rockies are in freefall, losing seven straight and heading toward their fourth 100-loss season, surrendering the most runs in baseball. Tatis Jr. leads the Padres’ surge with four homers this month, joined by Machado and Merrill, while Cronenworth’s slump is a concern. For the Rockies, Amador and Rumfield offer some offensive hope. In the upcoming series, Padres’ Casey Mize (struggling but effective at Coors) faces Rockies’ Tomoyuki Sugano (solid at home vs. San Diego), as the Padres look to extend their dominance—winning eight of nine against Colorado this year—with playoff positioning on the line.
