PADRES POSTCAST: FERNANDO TAKES OVER NEW YORK! Tatis Robs 1, Hits 2 HRs in 5-2 Padres Win Over Mets

Fernando Tatis Jr. took over in New York as the San Diego Padres bounced back with a 5-2 victory over the Mets, evening the series and keeping themselves ahead of Arizona in the National League Wild Card race.   Tatis delivered a superstar performance on both sides of the baseball. He launched a 452-foot solo home run in the first inning, added a 379-foot two-run homer in the fifth and also made a spectacular defensive play to take a home run away from New York. Fernando finished 2-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI and two runs scored.   Robbie Ray provided exactly the kind of start San Diego needed, allowing just one run on three hits over six innings, walking three and striking out four. Coming one night after Walker Buehler gave the Padres six innings and two runs, Ray’s performance adds to a major developing storyline: San Diego’s starting rotation may finally be settling in, with Michael King scheduled to pitch the series finale.   Adrián Morejón entered a high-leverage situation in the seventh and retired Francisco Lindor and Bo Bichette to escape trouble. A Luis Robert Jr. home run in the eighth snapped Morejón’s 14⅓-inning scoreless streak and was only the fourth homer he has allowed this season, but he battled through 38 pitches and stranded two runners with a huge strikeout of A.J. Ewing.   Ty France added an RBI single in the seventh, while Manny Machado delivered a 397-foot ninth-inning home run to restore the three-run lead.
