Isaiah 53 gives one of the clearest pictures in the Old Testament of Jesus’ suffering and sacrifice. Long before the cross, God promised that a Servant would come who would carry our sin, bear our grief, and pay our debt before God. In this message, we explore what the Servant was paying, how He paid it, and why He was willing to suffer in our place. Jesus didn’t die as a victim—He died as our substitute. Because of Him, the judgment we deserved was satisfied, and the freedom we could never earn was offered as a gift.

The deists, most of whom believed that there was a god worthy of worship who had created the world, denied special divine action beyond creation.
