Christians worldwide have been commemorating the last days of Jesus' life during Holy Week for over 1,600 years. Today, we celebrate Palm Sunday, which marks the day Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, symbolizing his challenge to Caesar and the Roman Empire as a rival king. Throughout history, empires have controlled their people through fear and violence. However, Jesus came to disarm all kings of their favourite weapon by dying and then rising from the grave. In John's Gospel, Jesus performs his seventh and final miracle by raising his friend Lazarus from the dead, providing evidence that his kingship will disarm death and grant eternal life. All of Jesus' miracles hint towards this ultimate goal, from turning water into wine to feeding over 5,000 people with a boy's lunch.
