Written by Chandan Kumar and directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, the series stars Jitendra Kumar, Raghubir Yadav, Neena Gupta, Sanvikaa Pooja Singh, Chandan Roy, Durgesh Kumar, Ashok Pathak, Faisal Malik, Sunita Rajwar and Pankaj Jha. It follows the story of an engineering graduate who becomes a panchayat secretary in the fictional village of Phulera in Uttar Pradesh due to limited job opportunities.The series was filmed at a real panchayat office in Mahodiya, Sehore district, Madhya Pradesh, located around 40 km from Bhopal, the state capital. The soundtrack and background score were composed by Anurag Saikia, while cinematography and editing were handled by Amitabha Singh and Amit Kulkarni, respectively. It marked Mishra’s first full-length directorial project following his work on the second seasons of Permanent Roommates and Humorously Yours!.[1]Panchayat premiered on Amazon Prime Video on 3 April 2020.[2] The series received mostly positive reviews from critics, who praised the performances, writing, direction, and technical aspects. The show's rural backdrop was noted as a departure from the urban settings featured in many of TVF’s earlier productions.[3] At the inaugural Filmfare OTT Awards, the series won multiple awards in the Comedy Series category, except for Best Actress. It was also nominated for Best Original Story, Screenplay, and Dialogues for Chandan Kumar, though it did not win in these categories.[4]The second season of the series was scheduled to release on 20 May 2022 but premiered two days earlier.[5] In this season, Abhishek is shown becoming more involved in village politics and development while preparing for the CAT exam.The series was renewed for a third season, originally planned to premiere on 15 January 2024 but delayed multiple times. It was eventually released on 28 May 2024.
