But what sits behind this China speed? Is it simply faster engineering, or does it reflect a fundamentally different approach to data, AI, collaboration and decision-making? Looking ahead five years, the panel considers what a realistic Western version of China speed could look like: faster learning cycles, interoperable data ecosystems, greater autonomy for engineering teams, continuous software-enabled product improvement and stronger use of AI and real-world data. The central message is clear: competing on speed is not about abandoning discipline but about removing unnecessary friction while preserving the rigour needed for safety, quality and trust.
