Parables

On this episode of Preaching the Text, John Hoyum and Steve Paulson discuss parables. Parables present a tricky obstacle to most preachers because of the temptation to present the gospel in metaphorical fashion, leaving hearers to apply the metaphor to themselves. Instead, parables must be untangled so as to uncover a direct form of the gospel promise that can be applied directly to the hearer through the word of the preacher.
