Parables — The Parable of the Lampstand

Drawing on a story of panicked hikers unable to follow simple instructions, this message frames Luke 8:16-21 around a single hinge verse: consider carefully how you listen. Hearing and listening are not the same — Judas heard everything Jesus taught yet did not listen. The lamp is not lit to be hidden; what is concealed will be brought into the open. From this come four ways to listen. Evangelically, living as visible light to a dark world. Genuinely, refusing a Sunday-only faith that conceals what should be confessed. Productively, since listening means application and fruitfulness marks genuine discipleship. Finally, faithfully: when Jesus calls his true family those who hear God's word and do it, he teaches that entry comes not through bloodline but through his blood sacrifice. The closing question is simply whether we are listening to the Father.
