Parables — The Parable of the Tenants

This message reads Mark 12:1-12 in its context, where the religious leaders challenge Jesus' authority. To Jewish ears, a vineyard immediately recalled Isaiah 5 — the vine that received every provision yet yielded only bad fruit — so the parable's targets would have recognized themselves at once. The pattern of patient, repeated mercy met with violence raises the question of why God kept sending messengers — answered by his unwillingness that any should perish.
