Parables: The Unmerciful Servant Pastor Matt Haflett Matthew 18:21-35 NIV 6/10/2023 1. Being forgiven. (Matt. 18:23-27 NIV) · Jesus tells us to never stop forgiving…77 or 7x7. · The point of the number is that it is unreachable. 2. Forgiven much. (Matt. 18:23-27 ESV) · 10,000 talents are worth millions today, but it is to be forgiven. This is what God did for us through Jesus. (1 John 1:8-10, Romans 3:23 Psalm 103:11-12) · We have fallen short even more than we could know. (Mark 7:21-23, Jeremiah 17:9) · A person who realizes how much sin they’ve been forgiven loves even more for it. (Luke 7:44-47) 3. And so, we forgive. · God forgives us even while we are still at our worst Romans 5:7-8) · If we know Jesus and the forgiveness given to us, we should want to forgive others from our heart. This does not come easy; it can take prayer and help. (Eph. 4:32) · Jesus calls us to forgive, no matter how hard or hurtful the offense, because it is small compared to what Jesus gave us.
