Paradigms and Confirmation Bias

from Over and Under Hosted by Edward Henderson

In this episode we’re looking at paradigms — the lenses we use to interpret the world — and how those lenses shape our ability to judge and process information. When you combine a rigid paradigm with confirmation bias, you get a volatile mix that fuels mob‑justice, a force that rarely produces anything resembling true justice. Social media amplifies this dynamic, and people with malintent understand exactly how to weaponize it. They know that once a false paradigm takes root, confirmation bias will do the rest: people will seek out whatever details support the narrative they already believe and ignore anything that challenges it. The tragedy is that we often cooperate in our own misjudgment, mistaking our preconceived notions for insight and our emotional reflexes for evidence.
