from Womanity - Women in Unity · host Dr Amaleya Goneos-Malka

This week on Womanity-Women in Unity, Dr. Amaleya Goneos-Malka talks to South African Paralympic gold medallist and world record holder Anruné Weyers. She shares her Tokyo 2020 experience, from creative workouts (incorporating her Beagle in weight training) during lockdown, to contracting Covid-19 just prior to the Games, to going on to win gold at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. The Paralympics is a globally celebrated event that helps to raise awareness for persons with disabilities and their exceptional capabilities. However, persons with disabilities still experience widespread discrimination, and in view of International Day of Persons with Disabilities which was held on 3 December 2021, we discuss some aspects of social and economic discrimination that persons with disabilities encounter and consider how greater inclusivity can be attained. Tune in for more.
