Parathyroid Localization

This episode reviews the diagnostic strategies for parathyroid localization in primary hyperparathyroidism, guiding the practicing endocrinologist through the selection of optimal imaging modalities. We compare the utility of standard ultrasound and technetium-99m sestamibi scintigraphy with the high sensitivity of modern four-dimensional computed tomography scans. Finally, we discuss how accurate preoperative mapping minimizes operative times and enables focused, minimally invasive parathyroidectomy, translating complex anatomical imaging into successful surgical outcomes at the bedside.
