Topic - Grandparents and Drug Use. Baby boomers, born between 1946 and ‘64, make up 30% of the population. By 2030, there will be 71 million of us. This group became well known in the ‘60s for powerful changes in attitudes toward drug use. They used illegal drugs to a much greater extent than did previous generations. It was thought that they would outgrow their love affair with recreational drugs, but that is oh so not the case. By 2005, nearly 5% of baby boomers visiting ERs reported that they’ve used drugs since the ‘60s. When you send your kids to the grandparents for the weekend, you may want to ask those delicate questions focusing on substance use. Yes, they’re your parents, but your kids come first.
