With mixed messages coming from many school boards, parents are rightfully concerned that many schools may be teaching revisionist history and other concerning moral positions. What can you do to combat this here in Hawaii? Jim and Eva walk through it on this week's episode of the FFF Show.Resources: https://casetext.com/regulation/hawaii-administrative-rules.title-8-department-of-education.subtitle-2-education.part-1-public-schools.chapter-31-tobacco-free-school-system.section-8-31-1-purpose9:05 https://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/frontpage/faq/rr/pamphlets.html17:11 https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/Vol01_Ch0001-0042F/05-CONST/CONST_0010-0001.htm18:50 https://law.justia.com/cases/hawaii/supreme-court/1970/4918-2.html20:32 https://casetext.com/regulation/hawaii-administrative-rules/title-8-department-of-education/subtitle-2-education/part-1-public-schools/chapter-89-civil-rights-policy-and-complaint-procedure-for-students-complaints-against-adults/section-8-89-1-policy-and-purposeHaw. Code R. § 8-31-1The public school system strives to provide its students with a safe and secure learning environment, as well as appropriate instruction and school experiences that mutually reinforce good personal health and safety practices. The present practice of condoning tobacco use by employees and other adults on public school campuses, at off-campus events, and at district and state offices seriously undermines and contradicts instruction to students regarding the health hazards of tobacco use. The purpose of this chapter is to implement the tobacco free school system policy. Accordingly, this chapter sets forth who shall be responsible for implementing the tobacco free school system policy, as well as how the policy shall be enforced. This chapter also provides for counseling and rehabilitation assistance to employees who wish to stop smoking.Don't forget to subscribe to the FFF podcast for more in-depth discussions on social and political issues that matter to you!
