Parker Messick’s Rise Shakes Up Cy Young Talk | Cleveland Guardians News

Parker Messick is rewriting the script for rookie pitching dominance, tossing six strong innings with five strikeouts and just one earned run to lead the Guardians to an 11-1 win against the Royals. Manager Stephen Vogt isn’t just calling him a Rookie of the Year candidate—he’s putting him in the Cy Young conversation, praising his resilience and ability to keep games alive even when command wavers early. At 25, Messick boasts a stellar 2.46 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 161 strikeouts across 161 innings, including a blistering 1.87 ERA over his last seven starts. Among all rookies, he leads in ERA and innings pitched, and ranks second in WHIP—making him one of the most dominant arms in baseball. With his next start looming against the Tigers, Messick’s impact on Cleveland’s season—and his own legacy—is only just beginning.
