Parshas Tazria: Mindless Chatter
from The Shmuz · host JewishPodcasts.fm
Shiurim on shmiras haloshon aren’t popular. Like exercise orkeeping healthy, most think ‘yep. I know this. Shouldn’t do it. Not sure I needto listen to a whole shiur about it...’ Unfortunately, the parameters of lashonhara are not what you think. Just like eating treif or being mechalelShabbos, it is one hundred percent forbidden. And it’s easy to see why-weall have stuff in our history that we wouldn’t want ‘out there’. It makes sensethat talking about even true events could cause serious damage to another Jew. But there’s more: it’s actually relatively easy to stop talkinglashon hara. You see, lashon hara isn’t driven by passion, by desire. It’smostly due to a lack of awareness. By becoming more attentive of what the Torahdemands of us, we can start amassing a serious amount of zechar for ourselves. All it takes is for us to become more mindful and aware of what we’re saying.
