Part 08: Altar. Table. Road. with Chan Pridgen

from GateCity Podcast · host GateCity Church Atl.

We are in the beginnings of a major shift in the Church from a program based or a platform-based approach to a presence-centered, prayer-based approach. The Church is changing from being patterned after synagogues to being patterned after David’s Tabernacle Historically when believers simplify their lifestyle around simple spiritual rhythms their walk with the Lord becomes accessible, revitalized, and flourishing. In an effort to preserve historic faith and multiply it with others, the ancient monks began to view the process of their spiritual lives around some primary spiritual practices in specific spaces: the Cave, the Table, and the Road. The Cave(Altar) was a place they would retreat to engage with the Lord in worship, prayer, and meditation on the Word. The Table was a place of fellowship. It was where they formed deep, committed relationships with those who had intimate access to their lives. The Road was the place where they engaged the world around them either through outreach to the poor and needy or evangelism and mission to those who had not heard the gospel. Identifying these three theaters and rhythms, simplified the lifestyle and. spiritual formation for the church to maintain its purity amid a culture that was deeply anti-Christian.
