Yeah This is a quick take people come on all right. How y'all feeling man? I thought I was doing a song intro for a minute that track go crazy Um what up man? How y'all feeling?
I'm back again for another quick take and hopefully y'all enjoy last week This is episode one thirty one. I had a hesitate like what episode we on one hundred and thirty one and if you didn't listen last week shame Oh, you go back and check that out, but every nominee maybe sometimes twice in a row or whatever We're gonna do quick takes which is just a more straight-to-the-point version with a lot less production and details and intros and things and all that We're gonna focus on one or two topics and today. We have a good one. All right.
This comes from a Faithful listener of the show. So thank you I'm not saying names because I try to be careful You know you say the name of people and they reach out to you You all might have to let me know when you reach out to me. I did let the person know hey I think this is dope. I'm gonna talk about it on the show But I'm not gonna say your name so this topic was sparked by a fateful long time listener This person been listening since last year.
They joined us during the pandemic. So thank you You will remain unnamed. There's a part of me that wants to give shout outs, but then if I say your name and you want it to be private I don't want to deal with the drama from your people All right So I got an email and I'm paraphrasing here right and keeping it keeping the details out So I don't give anybody's information, but the email was about like hey, you know I'm struggling because I'm realizing I'm not a high-quality person and I was like whoa, okay like and when I get around high-quality people I get uncomfortable and I forgot the other word is used but basically it's kind of like maybe you feel inferior because you're realizing that like you're lacking Something that you see in these people my response was more so like all right. This is interesting Let me first understand like, you know, can you bring a little more clarity to the conversation because you know high-quality?
How are you just the finding high-quality? That was what I was thinking and basically the person kind of answered their own question They end up basically coming back and saying they mentioned Michael Jordan for instance like hey I'm watching the last dance and I'm studying other people that are great at what they do And I'm realizing the level of dedication the level of focus the level of discipline they have It's just a level that like I'm not at that level you feel me and I'm like again my next email back to them was like I think this is dope I'm gonna answer your question on the show and that is how we got the topic for today's quick take So first what I want to do is you know, this this email made me start thinking about like because of the way they define a defined high quality as basically like ultra successful people in a particular field and I like started thinking about like okay. Who are some like really ultra professional or successful people in fields? I thought of your typicals Jeff Bezos, right the founder and CEO of Amazon just about everyone uses Amazon these days He flying in her space and all of that type of stuff You know, you think about people like an Elon Musk a CEO of Tesla and who's also doing some outer space type things Bill Gates Mark Zuckerberg I can talk the founder of Facebook and then Kobe Bryant was the last one So like a couple things about some of these people because I wanted to first like dig into all right This person's definition of high quality and I think it's fair to consider like, you know by definition Like yo, you're a high quality person if you are at the top of your field you get what I'm saying So first I want to deal with that But we're gonna dive into a couple other things about like what does that mean as a Christian?
How do I digest this what if this person is like ultra successful in one area? But like you know, really like a loser at home for instance where they lost a marriage or you know Like so I want to talk about a couple of different dynamics of these things Here's the first thing I want to start off and tell you as you're listening to today's show I'm gonna challenge you not to be an extremist Most of us want to be extremist by nature's by nature We want to like we want it all the way one way or all the way another way We like balance and I think you see this a lot of times I always talk about like the Bible when people say like, you know, the god of the Old Testament and the god of the new is Like, oh, that's saying God. No, no, no, no, no, same guy It's balanced out if you read the Old Testament and read the New Testament together They it's a balance there and it's a it's a continuous and consistent theme, right? When you separate them and try to be an extremist to either like one or the other then you get a little out of whack You feel what I'm saying?
And so that's why I'm challenging you today even with this topic Like don't feel forced to be an extremist try to balance out some of the pros and cons other things that we're gonna digest as if we look at the life Of some mad me. Okay. All right. Matt is a compliment I think in this particular instance and maybe it's a little bit of a compliment and a critique.
All right So all right, um, I was looking at some interviews and I wrote down something that Jeff Bezos said He was talking to some kids about space after going in her space recently and this is one of the things that he said he said I want to see millions of people living and working in space Like you tell my outer space like off of earth He's like I want to see millions of people living and work listen, bro Some of us are late to work and we work downtown Could you imagine having to go to Mars for work? Like a man to call me to be crazy. Hey man traffic is crazy going up here, bro Man, yeah, dude. They doing construction in the outer hemisphere.
I can't do it. I ain't gonna make it, bro Hey, I'm six hours late, man I didn't forgot to put gas in my rocket boss man. Yeah, I ain't gonna be there man. I'm sick Look, so here's the first thing I want the reason I put out that quote.
Um, when you think about these ultra successful people They are very big thinkers. Okay, and I'm gonna be real with you This is something that I think we really need Jesus on okay, like it's just my opinion right now I think I really need Jesus because like when you start talking about casting down imaginations like some of these imaginations produce some really great things Like oh, I got a package at my door and I just hit the buy button three minutes ago Thank you Amazon and it's up stuff start getting a little scary like hold on bro. You want me to go to work on Pluto I'm good on that so but that's one of the that's one of the dynamics of these people They're typically like they are just gigantic thinkers like an Elon Musk like yo I'm gonna make electric cars I'm gonna go up against the big three in automotive industry in America like could you like these are not simple tasks They're not simple objectives that you just can obtain overnight So right now I'm just looking at some of the qualities that these quote unquote high quality people have As what relates to like work ethic and you know, discipline and right now we're focusing on how they think so look you're a big thinker cool, right? But then there's this other dynamic of like Look, they got a little savage to him.
Okay, I'm gonna just be real with you They got a little bit of savage Michael Jordan for instance punched one of his teammates in the jaw and practice Steve car, right? Like Steve car about six to maybe six to maybe six three with some shoes on my Jordan six six six seven, you know Athletic Steve car skinny do it like hit him in his jaw, right? When you watch the last day and Michael Jordan is just cussing his teammates out left and right, you know I'm saying Kobe Bryant was actually the same way so a lot of these quote unquote high quality people right there big dreamers big thinkers Right, we dealt with that and then they're kind of savage, right? And this is something that I think especially as believers Part of the point of this conversation is to help us think about where should I lean in to being this type of person?
Like where can I tweak in my personality or with my business or with my life where I need to be a little more Like a Michael Jordan and think about being great and we can I just be honest and say you know what? You know what Mike you might be a little crazy, right? Like I don't want to punch my teammates in the face to win a championship Like like my point is a lot of times these type of people have a singular focus and objective meaning They are so hyper focused on when one it literally at the risk of losing everything else now. That's a choice, right?
So I'm just again everything else now. That's a choice, right? So I'm just again and remember this conversation isn't a point isn't to say yay or nay to either side I'm really trying to just think through it and share some thoughts around balancing and as believers like how do we become high quality people? according to God's wheel you get what I'm saying according to what the Lord created us to be and I Think they're like here's what happens We will just look at people success in their field and say I want to be like that person We make them a role model because of their success in one area But life is like a department store.
You got a whole bunch of areas You got the automotive area. You got the baby area You got the candy aisle you got the food like could you imagine going in the department store and the candy aisle is amazing But the apparel and the cashier section and the health and wellness the pharmacy is dirty and horrible I'm just being real sometimes like for people to be so good at one thing at this crazy intense level They have forsaken other things now. That's not me. Um, for instance Kobe Bryant was asked in this interview Patrick David interviewed Kobe Bryant so You know God rested so if you never saw the Kobe Bryant interview I would imagine you to I mean I would advise you to go check out a value team It's YouTube channel and a Kobe Bryant interview is one of the first ones they show My point of bringing up that interview in particular I'm gonna say a few things from that interview, but um Patrick acts Kobe About his relationships.
He was like if I was like your cousin or a friend from high school brewing up You know what would have happened with our relationship once you went to the NBA and Kobe Bryant said those relationships would have suffered Because he was like my focus was this thing So you would have had to understand that I'm not focused on us and I'm paraphrasing I'm not focused on us I'm focused on this and he was saying then when we come back together, you know, it would be all good But we would understand that what's lost is lost you give what I'm saying some people in order to be that Intense in one area have to for instance decide they're not gonna be at their kid school programs They're not gonna I heard a CEO say once and I've said this a million times on his show that he when his daughter when he gave her way to be married She was a grown woman and he realized he didn't know anything about her He didn't know her favorite color. He had never gone to her school programs because he chose the life of a CEO No, that's also probably 20 30 years ago because he was an older dude But you know, so there may be a little more flexibility as it relates to today's day and age But I do want you to think about that like what decisions and Relationships and things am I willing to lose or dampen in order to go after this thing? And look, I'm not even remember I'm not even really trying to influence you one way or another I'm trying to present facts for both sides And I also don't necessarily think this is an easy thing to think through but I would advise you to think through it I think that the first step to being great not let me not exaggerate not the first step I think a very important step to being great is to think about what it means to be great And some of us are living through life and have never asked ourselves these questions And which might be a sign that we are not even scratching the surface of the level of greatness we can have So there's a lot of good things even about putting relationships in their place because somebody like a Kobe Bryant might also not have the distractions Of us because our cousin called us and want to go smoke tomorrow And a lot of times if we just being real in our lives We allow people to guilt us into living lifestyle that we don't want to live that we know We're not created to live but we allow the guilt of our loved ones to pull us out of purpose So don't be an extremist. There is a little bit of value in maybe Putting some relationships in their place, but then you also have to be mindful of like what is the relationship?
Like I don't want to put my wife, you know at the bottom of the totem pole and it's like oh no I got to do this podcast like I'm sorry y'all as much as I want this to be a great podcast For me if I got to choose between my wife and having a happy home and you know producing an hour show every week Either y'all gonna take these quick takes or um nah, I love y'all don't want to I got to be careful how I say this because I want you to keep listening I love you, but if a choice got to be made, uh, I hate to tell you You want me to choice this won't be it I'm being silly and for real at the same time. All right, so let's move on, right? So Kobe Bryant said those relationships will suffer Um, you know as we talk about the savageness of some of these people I do think there's a such thing as a necessary savage and I think there's a savage that's a little too far And help me let me explain a little bit the necessary savage is a little bit of what I just said Um, and I people who know me know I can be this type of person a little bit like sometimes it's like I know what I want I know what I'm doing and I you have to draw the line of saying because people unfortunately family friends loved ones They will try to people want to control you they want you to do what they want you to do and um When people can't control you or manipulate you then something they don't like that You know and I've had that in my life some people don't like me because they can't control me I'm not easily like it's like oh man like I know what I want sometimes so it's like If you can't get me into doing what you want me to do simply because you want me to do it not because it makes sense Um some people don't like that and I'm and there might be a necessary savage to that And what I'm saying is like dang it might be necessary for me to come off me or it might be necessary for me to come off a certain way So protect my peace or protect my purpose protect doing what I know God wanted me to do that you might not understand why I'm doing it right But then there's an unnecessary savage like Michael Jordan punching his teammate in the face or Uh, maybe a little more controversial, you know, I think about Facebook and how it started at least according to the social network movie Um, you look at the fact that, you know, mark zuckerberg kind of might have stole the idea of facebook And I know he went to court and they settled and all type of things I believe I don't remember all the details of that But I do know the the twin duels that he supposedly stole it from like then they went on to create instagram and Ironically facebook bought that too. There's a necessary and unnecessary Savage But what I'm saying is that mark zuckerberg might have taken this idea of facebook right and stole the original idea from them Which is savage and might be unnecessary right a little too far at the same time He probably took it further than they ever could have dreamed of because he's this hyper focus intense type of person And also I think there's a little bit of proof in the fact that he bought instagram from them Which means they took it as far as they could go They might not be as big of visionaries or dreamers and then he take it and go wherever I think those the dudes who create don't You know what?
I don't want to get the line. I believe those Uh, maybe I'm wrong, you know, you might want to fact check me on that one because I'm going off a memory alone and I don't know I feel like the I feel like the twins created the brothers created instagram unless it was a separate Set of brothers, but I do know facebook owns instagram. I know that much so mark zuckerberg you watch the movie He's kind of a savage guy right maybe not like a fluffy like friendly type of guy He doesn't come off that way he comes off a little cold, but then the guy created facebook So think about this we got One dude that wants you to work on pluto and jupiter and another dude that you know wants to steal ideas But they gave us two of the greatest companies ever like it's just this is why this stuff is so challenging You become this quote-unquote high quality person and you produce Some innovation into the world that changes everyone's lives But at the same time when we zoom into that person's life and now focus on their relationship with christ Which is as believers what it really all comes down to for us Do these people like? Okay, I want to say it this way because what I don't want to do is come off like i'm judging them You feel me and I want to be careful with that I'm not trying to come off like i'm judging them But i'm trying to get you to think about do we think these people's lives spiritually Are aligning with who god wants them to be like Just because I create and become super famous in a billionaire does that mean i'm walking in my purpose And I think the default position for us a lot of times is we think the answer is yes Like we think just because people are super rich and they got a great business and he the third richest person in the world Does it mean is there a difference between prosperity and purpose and I think it kind of is y'all And here's why I say that I think one of the things that you know Can happen when you get a lot of power or either on your way to a lot of power is you become like a god to yourself And I think we all have to be careful of that like You know the bible says like you know what do it profit a man to gain the world and lose his soul That right there that scripture is letting us know and it's is landed out plainly that it's possible to gain this world And lose your soul But what does it profit you and I love the word profit there because you're talking about a businessman that gains the world that understands revenue and profit And all of those type of things and it's like jesus is saying like uh is the return on that investment really worth it It are you really in the black or are you in the red at the end of the day?
