When you are feeling lost, the first thing most people think is how do I NOT feel like this? Now you have two options: 1. Make the decision to do the work to improve so you have control over yourself in these types of situation 2. Mask it, pretending like it will go away and move on to the next shiny object or return to the terrible situation to avoid feeling so crappy Option 1: Do the Work. It allows you to grow, heal and trust yourself. Not to say that there won't be obstacles along the way and that you won't fall down because you will. That's part of growing and learning. Not trusting yourself stems from the situations you find yourself in. If you continuously choose the wrong romantic partner, this is validation that you don't trust yourself to choose the next one. Stop to ask yourself, "what about this person attracts me to them?", "why can't I seem to let go of them?". Typically, the partner that one chooses stems from childhood. Once you can understand how your childhood shapes your thoughts and actions, you will understand the choices you make. This is where it gets hard. There will be a lot of tears, a lot of denial, feeling lonely and like you are never going to get through it and learning how to set boundaries with yourself and others. There is no doubt about this. Your future self will thank you for doing the work, crying the tears, making the mistakes, learning and growing. It's inevitable to be better once you start to understand yourself. Through understanding yourself, you will begin to trust yourself. Start small. Sticking with the romantic partner example, when someone asks you on a date, ask yourself "do I want to go on a date with this person?" and if you go and they ask yourself again, ask yourself the same question. This is putting YOU first and not letting your ego run the show. It feels great to be asked out, but not if you don't want to go . Option 2: Masking the situation will only prevent positivity from happening to you because you will continue to attract and let in the wrong person. We all know it's easier to stay in your comfortably uncomfortable situation than to get uncomfortable with the future feeling like a huge question mark. Staying in your bad situation is the path of least resistance. As much as you hate what's going on, you are comfortable. Making the decision to change is HUGE and completely changes your life. It truly is the most rewarding thing you can do for yourself. Being self aware, having conversations with quality communication and constantly checking in with yourself are just some of the things they discuss.
