PART 3: The Preliminary Hearing That Sent D4vd to Trial

from You Can't Unhear · host Ericka Cuevas

Singer D4vd, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, has been ordered to stand trial for the alleged murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. Prosecutors say Burke sexually abused Celeste for an extended period, killed her at his Hollywood Hills residence in April 2025, and later concealed her dismembered remains inside the front trunk of his Tesla. Her body was discovered at a Los Angeles tow yard five months later. Burke has pleaded not guilty to murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, and unlawful mutilation of human remains. In this episode of You Can’t Unhear, we examine the evidence presented during the five-day preliminary hearing, including Celeste’s final messages, phone and vehicle movements, blood evidence found in a garage, and purchases prosecutors connect to the concealment of her remains. We also explore the defense’s argument that the evidence does not prove Burke caused her death, why preliminary hearings use a lower legal standard than trials, and the unresolved question of whether prosecutors will seek the death penalty.
